Teach Them To Give

Morning Peeps!

A lovely day ahead of me, with birthdays and friends and other nice things. I hope your day is fab too!

As a parent,  I think it’s important for every child to know the joy of giving, so here’s how to set them on that road:

First and foremost, be an example: If a child sees you giving your time and love and thoughtful gifts, they will see that as the norm.

Give them the opportunity: Let them put pennies in a collection or take things to a charity shop. It also gives you the chance to explain why.

Let them pick out their own gifts: Choosing a gift is not always easy, but letting them choose a birthday or Christmas gift makes them think about the other person’s likes and dislikes…. with the added bonus of teaching them to budget for gifts as they get older.

Take your time: Giving a 3-year-old time to shop isn’t always easy, but like everything else, it takes patience and guidance. Give them your time and attention and they will surprise you; they learn really fast!

Nothing miraculous or profound this morning, but it will make the world of difference to the recipients of their gifts and, perhaps most importantly, to the child’s character and values.

Have a lovely day my friends!
