Happy Bank Holiday Peeps!
If by some miracle you’ve missed the fact, I’m waiting for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Some people don’t quite share my enthusiasm for the Jurassic franchise, (my mum and hubby included…I’m so glad my daughter will come with me!) so I thought I’d share some other awesome movies we’re expecting this year…I mean, seriously, I may need some sort of pass or loyalty card for the cinema at this rate!
(These are not in release date order, I’ve tried to group them by category, but in my opinion, they get better as they go down!)
Family Films:
Incredibles 2: A lot of Incredibles fans have waited 14 years for this! I feel like I should see it (because it’s Disney!) but I wasn’t really a fan of the first one…although as a mum I can see the appeal of being Elastigirl!
Hotel Transylvania 3: First was good, second was OK, will see if the friendly vampires can do any better on holiday.
Small Foot: This looks funny. If you like the Abominable Snowman in Monsters Inc., then you’ll love this guy. Basically, all these Big Foot critters are terrified of humans coming up their mountain…watch the trailer and have a giggle:
Christopher Robin: Sort of jumping on the success of Paddington and such. A grown-up Christopher Robin goes back to his friends for help. I like the idea of an adult talking to his toys, I love the idea that Pooh will still be here for him as he promised in the original books and cartoons, I think I like the idea of them having an adventure in the modern/real world….but I’m not sure what to think about the characters themselves (other than Pooh himself, he’s adorable); let me know what you think.
Mary Poppins Returns: Disney re-make again. I LOVE Julie Andrews, so Emily Blunt has a lot to live up to. It has the potential to be really good, possibly the best Disney film of the year, but it’s still a re-make and therefore it’s chances are only 50/50 as we’ll always compare it to the original. Side fact: I LOVE that Dick Van Dyke is returning as Mr.Dawes in the bank- now much closer in age to the character than he was the first time! (He’s 92!)
Wreck-It Ralph 2: Despite the lure of Dick Van Dyke, this may be the Disney film that most appeals to me this year. I wasn’t bothered about watching a computer game character in the cinema when it came out, but the first film grows on you…the girl and other secondary characters are irritating but Ralph is a sweetie and I like the whole ‘go against your bad programming’ message. Also, for anyone who grew up in the 80s then the other computer game characters you can spot will keep you entertained for aaaaages!
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald: I’m kind of 50/50 with the Harry Potter films, but I LOVED Fantastic Beasts! It looks intriguing, especially with Johnny Depp playing the wicked Grindlewald and Jude Law playing a young Dumbledore. Most importantly, everyone’s favourite (human) characters from the first film will return!
Musicals:
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again: More Abba music, YAY! (Did I mention that my heart lies with 70s music?) Took me a long time to watch the first one as I am not a Meryl Streep fan, but love the rest of the cast! (Especially Colin Firth and the legend that is Jule Walters!) I hope that they keep Sophie with her fella and it isn’t a repeat of the story of her mum’s pregnancy. Also, the Grandma (that chucked Donna out for being pregnant) appears…none of which interested me until I saw who was cast to play her!! Have a look:
Bohemian Rhapsody: In a different League to Mamma Mia, the Autumn brings this Bio-pic of Freddie and the story behind one of the longest songs in chart history! So looking forward to this…we are all excited. They sound spot-on and look pretty well right (A few differences but not enough to distract from the story). Also, the medley of Queen hits they play in the trailer is pure genius…I want that soundtrack!
Action (with a little bit of scary): (This is my favourite section!)
Mary Shelley: Not heard much about this yet, but I love Frankenstein. Looks more like a telling of her creating the story, but with glimpses of it worked in. Just cool enough not to be scary. I’m excited.
Skyscraper: The Rock, explosions and jumping from helicopters….totally worth watching. Also, if you’re a fan of film theories and analysis, the internet has been going nuts over whether or not the death-defying leap would actually be possible. (Fun for any Physics teachers out there to use in forces and motion lessons!)
The Meg: The Shallows meets Jurassic. Jason Statham brings action and dry humour to a scary shark-attack-survival film! There is nothing about that concept that I don’t like the sound of! I don’t like Jaws as it’s too much in favour of hunting poor sharks down, but as this isn’t a realistic situation, it’s just gonna be fun! Love Jason Statham, love shark movies and survival/disaster films, LOVE prehistoric critters…YES PLEASE!
Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom: I’ve said enough, 2 weeks to go!!! 🙂
So now you know where all my spare money and time will go this year! I suppose it’s good for our local cinema…I wonder if they need shareholders?!
