Shockingly I’m not talking Christmas when I say ‘that time’ (even though christmas eve is only 9 weeks today)!
I’m talking about the fact that we moved into our current home almost 4 years ago (!!😱) so we have lots of bills and contracts up for renewal about now.
The best advice I can give you is to shop around.
Tip 1: Comparison sites are great (although make sure you check your contact details on these because they WILL contact you by your preferred method).
I know it’s a little time consuming but I recommend using more than one… u switch, compare the market or money supermarket to name but a few. The thing is companies can sign exclusive deals or pay to be at the top of the list, so check your prices.
We used this method for our dual fuel bill (gas and electric) and found a deal that was £30 per month cheaper than the renewal quotes from my existing supplier!
Tip number 2: I then rang my existing supplier to see what their latest offer was on that day- don’t just accept the offer on the letter/email they sent; they change deals at least once a month- they gave me a different quote (within a couple of pounds of the cheapest comparison one.
Tip 3: Cheapest isn’t always best. We decided to stay with zebra power for 3 reasons:
1. They are helpful, friendly and easy to get hold of i.e. not one of the big 6 companies.
2. The price was close to the cheapest, still saving us over £300 per year. The cheapest was not a company we knew anything much about.
3. No hassle. There is no changeover, no new dates and no final bills to pay on top of the first month of new contract…. sometimes paying a couple of quid for convenience is worth it.
Do what’s best for you and your family. Check carefully and weigh up the pros and cons.
