How-do Sunday Peeps!
I’ve been reading the book of Romans and wanted to talk to you about this…
Romans 3:27-31
English Standard Version (ESV)
27 Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
Basically, Paul is telling us that it doesn’t matter if you were Jew or Gentile before, now you have to keep your faith and work like God would want you to.
This may sound obvious but I wanted to clarify it because in recent years there have been false teachings on God’s grace. God can (and does) forgive people all kinds of things when they repent and turn towards him. However, there are some who teach this like “yeah God’s grace will cover it, you do whatever”… that’s not what Paul tells us here.
He says that we are saved by faith because God gave us an amazing gift in Jesus, which is absolutely true. Pay special attention to verse 31: It doesn’t mean we can do what we want, it means we work towards what God wants.
The Message puts it like this:
31 But by shifting our focus from what we do to what God does, don’t we cancel out all our careful keeping of the rules and ways God commanded? Not at all. What happens, in fact, is that by putting that entire way of life in its proper place, we confirm it.
I just thought that this needed reiterating as we need to know the truth and what we’re working towards.
Have a great Sunday!
